We have been super busy with school starting this year for Katalina, all day kindergarten! Ahhh well it definitely snuck up on us. She is loving it but she is so tired after school.
Ian also started preschool twice a week and he is loving it too! Between the two schools I sure do a lot of driving!
I feel like we are finally getting into a good routine. So, I am back with you today to let you know 5 easy tips to make your morning with kids go smoother!
The first and I think most important is:
1.Wake up before the kids.
I get up an hour before but even if you get up 30 min before they wake up, it at least gives you some time to wash your face, make coffee, grab a bite and think of all you need to get done that day. You’ll set yourself up to be in a good mood.
2. Kids get dressed first thing.
Have the kids get dressed as soon as they wake up. I have tried just letting them eat breakfast and hang out in their pjs but they do not want to get out of them later and everyone seems to just move in slow motion so we end up rushing around at the last minute not to be late. I just have their outfits ready to go the night before.
3. Have their backpacks ready.
The night before make sure everything they need, homework, books, important papers are packed in their bags. We keep the back packs on our bench next to the front door. Kids can easily grab them on the way out!
4. Pack lunches in the morning.
Pack it up while they are eating their breakfast. I usually have 1 or 2 go to lunches that week so they kids can pick what they want each morning. For example I will make ahead peanut butter and jelly and meat and cheese sandwiches to choose from. You can also make big batches and keep them in the freezer and they will thaw and be ready to eat by lunch time. (Just leave off the condiments from the meat and cheese and they freeze perfectly.)
5. Time to go.
Have a timer set when they NEED to get their shoes on, it’s go time! Set the timer 15 min before you actually need to leave, that way if something comes up like my baby needs a quick diaper change (with a 5 month old this is always the case right before we need to leave!) or you forget something then you’ll have plenty of time to go back and grab it. (Like the time my daughter had p.e. class and I had her put on her daily uniform instead of sweats for p.e. Ahhhh good times!)
I hope this helped you out! Please let me know how your morning routine goes. I would love to hear your comments!
